Blood Vessels-Arterioles Flashcards
What are arterioles?
Smaller branch from artery
What are arterioles controlled by?
The nervous system
What does the nervous system control with regards to arterioles?
Regulate diameter and control blood flow
What does being red or flushed mean with regards to arterioles? What type of feature is this and what does it do to blood flow?
- Red or flushed are arterioles relaxing or vasodilation occurring (diameter increases).
- Cooling feature that increases blood flow.
What do nerve impulses cause with regards to arterioles? What type of feature is this and what does this feature do to blood flow?
-Causes a contraction or vasoconstriction (diameter decreases).
-Heating feature that decreases blood flow.
Why is vasoconstriction important?
To ensure blood goes where is needed (5 L instead of 200 L).
