Blow Out Fracture Flashcards

1
Q

Signs of BOF

A
  • endopthalmos due to increased orbital volume
  • diplopia due to EOM entrapment
  • orbital emphysema
  • malar region numbness
  • hypoglobus

Q

Inferior blowout fracture features

A
  • most common
  • orbital fat prolapses into maxillary sinus
  • possible prolapse of inferior rectus muscle
  • most fractures occur in floor

Medial wall fracture features

A
  • second most common
  • occurs through lamina papyracea

Q

Superior blowout fracture features

A
  • usually in Px with pneumatisation of orbital roof
  • fractures only involve the sinus, anterior cranial fossa or both sinus and anterior cranial fossa
  • fractures communicating with the anterior cranial fossa are at risk for CSF leak and meningitis
