Body Systems Flashcards
anatomy vs physiology
Anatomy is the study of the structure of the body/ Physiology is the study of how bodies function
homeostasis
the body’s stable, balanced state
Integumentary System is made up of.. and what is the purpose
skin, hair, nails, oil & sweat glands/ prevent bacteria, foreign bodies and chemicals from entering the body, allows to feel pain, heat, cold, pressure and temp regulation, also prevents water loss and excessive water absorption
what is the Skeletal System(bonus: what else do bones do)
bones and joints (including cartilage and ligaments) that help support and move the body/ produce blood cells and contain minerals and fat
voluntary(striated) and involuntary(smooth) make up what body system
the Muscular System
what makes up the Nervous System
brain, spinal cord, nerves, and sensory receptors
Endocrine System and functions
hormone producing glands that affect and regulate metabolism, sleep cycles, growth, stress hormones, glucose levels, and reproduction
Cardiovascular System aka..is made up of..
Circulatory System; heart and blood vessels
This system transports oxygen, nutrients, hormones, water and waste. It also regulates body temp and immune system responses
the Cardiovascular System
Describe the Lymphatic System
consists of lymph nodes, lymphatic vessels, spleen, tonsils, and thymus
What are the 3 functions of the Lymphatic System
- protect the body by filtering blood and lymph
- remove toxins that cause infection and disease
3.transport white blood cells and interstitial fluid
We take in oxygen and eliminate carbon dioxide and we are part of what body system?
the Respiratory System(airway); nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi and lungs
List the 3 physical accessories in the Digestive System
1.Mouth 2.Teeth 3.Tongue
List the 9 chemical organs in the Digestive System
1.Saliva Glands 6.Esophogous
2.Stomach 7.Intestines
3.Gallbladder 8.Rectum
4.Pancreas 9.Anus
5.Liver
I am the kidneys, uterers, bladder and urethra. What do I do for the body?
the Urinary System; remove waste from blood and eliminate excess fluid
