A

Attaches to hyoid muscle.
Muscle that runs vertically towards the chin and sit anterior to the trachea and larynx.
(Swallowing and speaking)

Q

Lateral muscles- 4 layers

A
Scalenes:
S:
-there are 3 anterior, middle and posterior
-lateral support for neck
-connects to first to ribs
-common to entrap biracial plexus
F:
-cervical flexion (bilateral)
-lateral flexion
-forced breathing

Q

Thoracic body wall

A

Ventral muscle: sternalis [rectus sternalis] muscle
Only in 8% of the population
S: Vertical muscle F: assist with rib movement

Lateral: Intercostal S: in between ribs/ In chest/ fibers change.
F: involved in breathing/ keeps space between ribs during breathing.

Diaphragm: S: heart&lungs superior/ separates thorax and abdomen
F: quiet breathing

Subvertebral: Longus colli- F: flexes neck

Q

Abdominal body wall

A

Ventral: Rectus abdominis: S: straight muscle ribs to pubis linea alba (dens irr tis spreads from L to R 6 pack) F: flexion of lumbar spine

Lat: external oblique: runs between ribs and linea alba. Attaches to 8 lowest ribs. F: rotation of trunk/ weak lumbar flexion/ supports abdomen organs

Internal obliques: S: middle of abdomen wall
F: rotation with external , supports abdomen organs

Transversus abdominis: S: weakest muscle of group and deepest.
F: compress the abdominal organs ( keeps everything in place).
Quadratus lumborum (lumbar): S: anterior to Multifidus / attaches to anterior transverse process/ attaches to 12th rib tp, lumbar iliac crest/ posterior to KI/ "ONLY AB MUSCLE THAT DOENT ATTACH TO LINEA ALBA"
F: lat flex (uni)/ exten lumbar spine

SUB: psoas major: S: ant of lum vert/ ant to QL’s/passes under ingunial ligament/ Att to femur (LEG).
F: powerful hip flexors and week in lateral rotation of hip.
Exaggerates the Lumbar curve - maintaining posture.
