Spongey and Compact
What makes up spongey bone?
Trabecule and Marrow spaces
What is the function of compact bone?
Provides structure and nutrient storage
What is the primary cell of compact bone?
Osteons
What is the function of a long bone?
Support, movement, protection and production of blood cells
Where is the diaphysis located on a long bone?
In the middle (shaft)
Where is the periosteum located?
On the outside of the bone to protect it
Why are articulating surfaces smooth?
Makes it easier to move and allows bones to glide over each other
What is the function of the nutrient foramen?
Gives passage to blood vessels and provides nutrition as growth
Where would you find a sesamoid bone?
Patella
Where would you find an irregular bone?
Coccyx
What is the function of osteoclasts?
Bone resorption
What is an example of an irregular bone?
Vertebra
