24
Q

What are the 5 cortices of the brian?

A

Frontal Cortex

Parietal cortex

temporal cortex

Occipital Cortex

Insular Cortex

25
Q

Flow of CSF?

A
  1. Lateral Ventricles
  2. Interventricular Foramen (foramen of Monro)
  3. Third Ventricle
  4. Cerebral Aqueduct
  5. Fourth Ventricle
  6. Median/lateral appertures
  7. subarachnoid space
  8. Arachnoid granulations which protrue into superior sagittal sinus (dural sinus)
  9. Venous Circulation
26
Q

How do the lateral ventricles communiate with the 3rd ventricle?

A

Interventricular Foramen (foramen of Monro)

27
Q

What are the 3 layers of the meninges

A

Dura Mater: tough mother; outer membrane

Arachnoid- CSF flows int he subarachnoid space

Pia Mater-in contact with brain

28
Q

Arachnoid Granulations

A

Site of absorption of CSF into systemic circulation

-protrude into superior sagittal sinus (a dural sinus)

29
Q

Epidural Hematoma

A

ruptured meningeal artery in the Epidural Space

  • located between dura and skull
  • arteries run in periosteal layer of the dura
30
Q

Subdural Hematoma

A

Rupture of a vein (typically cerebral vein) into dural sinus forming subdural space

-Subdural space=near the junction between dura and arachnoid

31
Q

Aneurysms

A

True Aneurism

1) Sacular-occurs where arteries branch; can be problematic; will rupture
2) Fusiform-rarely rupture; not problem

Symptoms- if its pressing against cranial nerve or not

3) False/pseudoaneuisms
- occur in large vessels;doesn’t involve all layers of vessel

32
Q

Venous Drainage of blood

Superficial veins vs Deep Veins

A

Superficial veins

1) Superficial middle cerebral vein
- ru

33
