brain imagery Flashcards
(6 cards)
How does FMRI work? what is it used for?
uses magnetic field and radio waves to show where neurons are consuming oxygen in the brain to indicate which parts of the brain are active during different tasks. used to show active parts of the brain when doing different tasks,
what are the 2 functional brain imagery techniques?
FMRI and EEG ( functional magnetic resonance imaging and electroencephalogram)
How does EEG scans work? what is it used for?
electrodes placed on scalp and brain waves are detected then carried via wires to recording machine where they are displayed to show brain activity in real time. it detects electrical changes from thousands of neurons at a time. used to diagnose epilepsy, shows which parts of the brain are active during different tasks.
what are the 2 types of structural scan?
MRI and CAT( magnetic resonance imaging and computerised axial tomography scan)
how does a MRI scan work? what is it used for?
uses strong magnetic field that allows the body tissues to emit a measurable signal from which a 3D image of the brain is produced and can be brought into 2D slides to display and analyse. used to find abnormalities in the brain, sized of tumours, help access effects of a stoke.
How does a CAT scan work? what is it used for?
produced still images of the brain using a rotating x-ray beam that moves 360 around the patient while taking x-rays, puts together images to make a 3D image viewing slices of the brain. used to detect for physical injury in the brain such as a stroke, aneurysms and any brain bleeds.
