Brain Scans Flashcards
(5 cards)
CAT Scan
x-ray tests that produce cross-sectional images of the body. It emits a series of narrow beams through the body moving through an arc
helps diagnose many types of cancer
EEG Scan
small electrodes and wires attached to your head. It detects brain waves and records them
it can diagnose seizure disorders, sleep disorders, changes in behavior, and can evaluate brain activity after severe head injury
MEG Scan
electrodes placed on scalp. Head it in a helmet like a scanner
can identify brain activity and measures small magnetic field within the brain
MRI/fMRI Scan
noninvasive test that uses strong magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the body
MRI- organs/tissues
fMRI- blood flow in the brain
diagnosed medical conditions of the body/brain internally
PET Scan
by using a scanning device to detect positrons embedded by a radionuclide in the organ or tissue being examined
can detect neural activity in different brain regions by level of cerebral blood flow
via injections of radioactive tracers
