Brain Stuff (Noah) Flashcards
(31 cards)
Which part of the brain is involved in the production of spoken and written languages and in language processing and comprehension, but cant make meaning of words.
Broca’s Area
Where can you find the Primary Motor Cortex
The Frontal lobe
What does Contralateral Control of the Body mean?
The left hemisphere of the brain controls the right side of the body and vise versa
Which side of the brain is responsible for logical thinking and speaking
The left
What are the 4 different lobes in the Brain
Frontal ,Parietal, Occipital, Temporal
What does the Primary Sensory Cortex do?
Receives, processes and sends information from out different sensed or sensors receptors in the body
What is the Primary Motor Cortex
Controls voluntary body movements.
What makes up the hindbrain?
The Brainstem and the Cerebellum
Where is the reticular formation found?
Midbrain
What does the reticular formation do?
Arousal, alertness and wake-sleep cycles.
What does the Cerebellum do?
Coordinates movement, posture and balance.
Where is the Hypothalamus?
The Forebrain
What is the outer most layer of the Forebrain?
The Cerebral Cortex
What does the brainstem/medulla do?
Controls vital functions, e.g. breathing, heart beating etc
Which part of the brain is responsible for spatial perception and bodily awareness based on sensations.
Parietal Lobe
Where is the hindbrain?
At the base of the brain, back of the skull.
What is the Primary Visual Cortex and where is it found?
Receives input from the retina, its in the Occipital Lobe.
What does the midbrain do?
Receives messages from all the senses except smell and sends them on to the higher brain regions.
What is the band of nerves that connect the left and right sides of the brain?
The Corpus Callosum
What does the Hypothalamus do?
Triggers the fight or flight response.
What are the 3 sections of the brain?
Hindbrain, Midbrain and Forebrain
What does the Occipital Lobe do?
Associated with vision and perception
What does the Thalamus do?
Receives sensory information and relays to the appropriate cortex.
What is the frontal lobe associated with?
Higher mental ability and movement
