What is a signature?
The structured relationship between a logotype, brandmark, and tagline.
What is a logo?
A brand mark or brand icon that symbolizes the values, quality and promise offered by the manufacturers of a product or service.
What are the five different types of logos?
- Wordmarks
- Letterforms
- Emblems
- Pictorial Marks
- Abstract/symbolic marks
What are WordMarks?
A freestanding acronym, company name, or product name that has been designed to convey a brand attribute or positioning.
eg.) Google, Ikea, eBay
What are Letterforms?
A unique design using one or more letterforms that as a mnemonic device for a company name.
eg.) IBM
What are Emblems?
A mark in which a company name is inextricably connected to a pictorial element.
eg.) Tivo, croc
What are Pictorial Marks?
An immediately recognizable literal image that has been simplified and stylized.
eg.) Apple, CBS, Twitter
What are Abstract/symbolic marks?
A symbol that conveys a big idea, and often embodies strategic ambiguity.
eg.) Chase, Sprint, Nike
What is the sequence of cognition of a logo?
- Shape
- Color
- Form
How do you create a memorable workmark logo?
Imbue a legible word or words with distinctive font characteristics, and may integrate abstract elements or pictorial elements.
