Q

What impact does it have on buddhists today, and why?

Why is this important to the religious follower, why?

A

For a good afterlife buddhists must have good karma - by following the 4 Noble Truths and the 8 fold path
This will lead to breaking samsara and achieving Moksha
You will become enlightened and experience NIRVANA and then Parinirvana

Buddhists are reincarnated like Hindus and their atman is reborn another form depending their Karma

The difference for a buddhist between nirvana and parinirvana is that if you achieve parinirvana you won’t get reborn and will remain with buddha but have a choice to be reborn to help others
