Q

Thiest view on design

A

In the 1930s FR Tennant proposed the Goldilocks Principle. He argued that everything needed to sustain life in the universe was not too big or not to small but “just right” – eg, the composition of the atmosphere, the distance of the earth from the sun – they’re just right so that life can be sustained

Q

3 beliefs for the cause of fine tunning

Q

Cosmological argument

A

Everything that exists or begins to exist must have a cause.
* The universe exists and began to exist, so it too must have a cause.
* There had to be something eternal that was not caused by anything.
* The eternal first cause is God.
* Therefore God exists.
“in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”

Q

Russel argument

A

“fallacy of composition”

-just because bricks are small doesnt mean the wall is small therefore because parts of the universe have a cause does not mean the universe has a cause

Counter argument: Big ban theory

Q

objection to miracles

A

Objections to the argument from miracles
Atheists might argue that miracles cannot prove God’s existence because:
* miracles are no more than lucky coincidences
* they may have scientific explanations not yet discovered
miracle healings may be the result of mind over matter on the part of
the sufferer. or a misdiagnosis by doctors
* some *miracles’ are fakes, made up by people who want fame or money.

Q

the pope

A

The big bang .1 does not contradict the divine act of creation;
rather, it requires it [.. .1 When we read the creation story in Genesis we
run the risk of imagining that God was a magician, with a magic wand
which is able to do everything [.. .1 But it is not so. He created beings
and let them develop according to internal laws which he gave every
one, so they would develop, so they would reach maturity.
pope Francis, speaking at the Pontifical Academy Of Sciences, 2014

16
Q

against suffering

A

Richard Dawkins- The total amount of suffering per year in the natural world is beyond all decent contemplation …no evil, no good, no evil, no good, nothing but pitiless indifference

17
Q

for suffering

A

Rowe argued that such suffering was not down to human free will and neither did it serve any purpose to bring about “ a greater good” -

18
Q

Inconsistant triad

A

If GOD is all powerful and all loving then evil can not exist

19
Q

Sister Mary believes that she encounters God when she reads & meditates. What do you think is happening?

A

-Even if she does not really encounter God, she becomes more like Christ (the ultimate goal) through her inventive view of the scripture which allows her to understand a deeper spiritual interpretation of the bible so she can understand the creator better
