What is a Bullock?
Male cattle (usually a stag) used for draft.
What is a Cow?
Mature female cattle.
What is a Heifer?
Young female cattle under 3 years old, but has reached sexual maturity.
What is a Steer?
Male cattle castrated at an early age.
What is a Stag?
Male cattle castrated after reaching sexual maturity.
What is a Calf?
Young cattle of either sex, under one year old.
What does In-calf mean?
Pregnant cow or heifer.
What is Calving?
The act of parturition or delivery of the young.
What is a Free martin?
Sterile female cattle born twin with a bull calf.
What is Beef?
Meat of a mature cattle.
What is Veal?
Meat of a young cattle.
Meaty, rectangular/square and blocky in form.

Lean and angular in form, with well-developed mammary gland.
dairy type
Large, rugged, with considerable length of leg. Example: American bison; Crosses of Brahman and Indu-Brazil.
Draft type
Intermediate between beef or dairy or draft.
Example: Red Sindhi, Sahiwal, Tharparkar, Red Poll, Criollo, Romo Sinuano.
Dual Purpose
What are some Dairy Cattle Breeds?
Holstein, Red & White, Jersey, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Ayrshire, Shorthorn.
