C1 Flashcards
(34 cards)
Whats phase 2?
- co2 dissolved in oceans
- marine organisms developed
- green plants developed
- green plants removed co2
- so oxygen increased
Whats phase 3?
- buildup or oxygen made organisms flourish
- oxygen created ozone layer
- little co2 left and alot of oxygen
What is phase 1 of the atmosphere?
- everything was molten
- everything cooled
- crust was formed
- volcanoes erupted
- gave out co2 and water vapour
- oceans formed when water vapour condensed
Two detailed features of sedimentry rock?
- contain fossils because they are formed at low temperatures so dead organisms arent destroyed
- easily eroded by weathering
How are metamorphic rocks formed?
Heat and pressure on sedimentry or igneous rocks over long periods of time causes metamorphic rocks.
Example of metamorphic rock?
Marble
How is igneous rocks formed?
When molten magma pushes up into the crust before cooling and solidifying.
What is extrusive?
Igneous rocks cooled quickly above ground … SMALL CRYSTALS
Whats intrusive rocks?
Igneous rocks cool slowly… Forms BIG crystals
Example of igneous?
Granite
Whats four examples of limestone use?
- building materials
- cement
- concrete
- glass
Three positives of quarrying limestone?
-provides materials for houses roads and dyes
-used to neutralise acidic soil caused by acid rain
-used in chimneys to neutralise sulfur dioxide
Provides jobs
Negatives of quarrying limestone?
- causes alot of noise pollution
- limestone needs to be moved with vehicles (co2)
- destroys habitats
- is ugly and ruins landscapes
Equation for any neutralisation reaction?
Acid+base->salt+water
Whats the test for chlorine?
Bleaches damp blue litmus paper turning it white
Test for hydrogen?
‘Squeaky pop test’ put a lighted splint in and it will pop
Test for oxygen
Use a lit splint and if it goes out and relights its oxygen
What is oxidation?
Gain of oxygen and loss of electrons
Whats reduction
Loss of oxygen and gain of electrons
Three properties of a metal?
- strong
- conducting heat
- conduct electricity
Why are alloys stronger than pure metals?
They have different sized particles so it makes it harder for the layers of particles to slide and thus makes it stronger
What can shape memory alloys be used for?
Glasses frames and stents for damaged blood vessels
Four reasons to recycle?
- uses less resources
- uses less energy
- uses less money
- makes less rubbish
When does complete combustion happen?
When theres alot of oxygen about
