C1 Lesson 1 Flashcards
a learned ability to cause a predetermined
movement outcome with maximum certainty
MOTOR SKILL
a complex ability that is divided into different
classifications based on purpose, execution,
effort applied, and situation.
MOTOR SKILL
the relatively permanent change in the ability
to perform a skill as a result of practice or
experience.
MOTOR LEARNING
Different Types Of Motor Skills
• Gross and Fine Continuum
• Open and Close Continuum
• External and Internal Paced Continuum
• Discrete, Serial, and Continuos Continuum
• Individual, Coactive and Interactive Skills
• Simple and Complex Skills
• Low and High Organization
• Variable and Fixed Practice
concerned with the precision of movement
THE GROSS AND FINE CONTINUUM
the abilities usually acquired during childhood
as part of a child’s motor learning, and by the
time they reach two years of age, almost all
children can stand up, walk and run, walk
upstairs, etc.
GROSS SKILLS
involve intricate, precise movements using
small muscle groups and generally involve
high hand-eye coordination levels.
FINE SKILL
concerned with the effects of the environment
on skills.
THE OPEN AND CLOSED CONTINUUM
The environment is continually changing, so
movements have to be often adapted
OPEN SKILLS
These skills occur in a stable, predictable
environment, and the performer knows what to
do and when.
Skills are not affected by the environment,
CLOSED SKILLS
concerned with movements’ timing (often used
with the open-closed continuum)
The External and Internal Paced Continuum
the performer controls the rate at which the
skill is executed.
These skills are usually closed skills. i.e.,
javelin throw, discus.
INTERNALLY PACED OR SELF-PACED SKILLS
the environment, which may include opponents, controls the rate of performing the
skill.
Externally paced skill
concerned with how well-defined the beginning
and end of the skill are - discrete, serial, and
continuous skills
The Discrete, Serial, and Continuous Continuum
are brief, well-defined actions with a clear beginning and end. - They are single, specific skills that make up the actions involved in various sports such as hitting and throwing
Discrete skills
are a group of discrete skills to make a new and complex movement. i.e., the sequence of skills for the triple jump.
Serial Skills
have no obvious beginning or end.
Continuous skills
those performed in isolation. e.g., high jump.
Individual skills
those performed at the same time as others but without confrontation. e.g., swimming.
Coactive skills
are those performed where other performers are directly involved. e.g., rugby, and netball
Interactive skills
is a straightforward one, that requires little concentration and cognitive ab
simple skill
involves a large attention span because they are complicated and repeatedly practiced to make it easier to perform in
competition.
complex skill
is easy and uncomplicated like riding a bike.
Low organization skill
a complex number of phases involved which cannot be broken down and practiced separately, as they are linked
closely together.
High organization skill
