Flashcards in CAD/ CAM Deck (24):
Computer Aided Design
Computer Aided Manufacturing
Flexible Manufacturing System. This is where production is organised into cells of machines performing different tasks.
Computer Numerical Control. Computer numerical control is the automation of machine tools by means of computers executing pre-programmed sequences of machine control commands
Just In Time Manufacturing. This is a strategy used by companies which involves receiving goods only as they are needed in the production process. This way, no materials need to be kept in storage.
Give 8 advantages of CAD
Availability at a student level
Can be easy to pick up initially
Visualise concepts in detail (lighting, rendering, materials)
Easy to edit
Give 6 disadvantages of CAD
Difficulty at complex levels
Which file type do you use for 2D CAD
Which file type do you use for 3D CAD
What is the datum
Where x,y and z co-ordinates meet (0,0,0)
How does CAD help companies reduce shipping costs?
Designs can be sent electronically to be manufactured near where they will be sold.
What is the input in a manufacturing system?
All the materials, CAD, tools and equipment you start with.
What is the process in a manufacturing system?
Whatever happens to the input to turn it into the output. The forming, addition or removal of material.
What is the output in a manufacturing system?
The final product
What are addition machines?
Machines which add material
What are subtraction machines?
Machines which remove material.
