verapamil (Calan) Diltiazem (Cardizem)

A

pharm class: non-dihydropyridines of a calcium channel blocker
MOA: dilates arteries and veins (BV and heart)
decreases calcium in the SA node
decreases heart rate
decrease force in contraction
AE: suppression in cardiac function
vasodilates the smooth muscle
don’t take with Digoxin

MOA: calcium channel blocker
cc’s blocked = vasodilation = decrease in BP
increases HR and intractability
decreases resistance,= decreases afterload = decreases heart work
