calculating biodiversity Flashcards
(6 cards)
what’s species richness
number of different species
what does the n, N stand for in Simpsons index of decay
N= total number of organisms of all species
n= total number of a particular species
what’s genetic diversity
-measure of how many variations there are in the genetic code or between individuals of a particular species/ between different species
how to calculate genetic diversity
-calculating percentage of gene loci in the population that have more than 1 allele
-some loci have more than 2 alleles (polymorphic)= number of polymorphic gene loci/total number of loci
what is simpsons index of decay
1- (E(n/N)^2)
what does a low Simpsons index mean
-the habitat is dominated by one/few species
-ecosystem is unstable and less likely to cope with change
