Calorimetry Experiment Flashcards
What is the purpose of the using a (bomb) calorimeter
-to measure the heat change of a reaction
-to measure the the energy change of a reaction
-to finally measure the overall enthalpy change if a reaction experimentally
Sources of inaccuracy
-heat lost to surroundings
-incomplete combustion
-evaporation of reactants before the reaction occurs
Which types of reactions can calorimeters be used to measure the energy change of
-Reactions that can occur in vessels
E.g combustion or neutralisation or hydration etc
Why do we have to extrapolate to find maximum temperature
-because heat is always being lost from the calorimeter so the final and initial temperatures are inaccurate
What does it mean if the enthalpy
Change of a reaction is close to 0
- the total bond released from forming bonds must be similar to the total energy input to break bonds
-therefore same (similar)number of Homs type beint broken and made
