CANCER?/NEOPLASIA Flashcards
(13 cards)
What is cancer?
Uncontrolled/ abnormal growth of cells
List off on how does cancer eve occur?
-abnormal cells are not taken out—>affect others—-> multiplication of these goof cells—–> overgrowth and take over space/nutrition (malignant)
What is anaplasia
ana=amnesia, forget what it look
can’t really tell what type of cell it is
Define malignant
a.overgrowth/takes over space b.travels throughout
overgrowth/takes over space
Cancer Cell CHARACTERISTICS
-anaplasia
-no cell-cell communication(hey imma go here you can go there)
-long life span (APOPTOSIS), are harder to get rid of
APOPTOSIS =
LONG LIFE SPAN
Define Angiogenesis
cell draws their own blood, blood vessel. aka grab supplies for their own benefit(parasite like)
Define metastasis
spreading cancel cells thought blood vessels/lymp vessels
Risk facs for CANCER?
-geneshereditary(colon, prostate, ovarian,breast)
-enviroment
-obesity
-tobacco
-unhealthy diet
-job occupation
How does Cancer present itself on patitents
-bleeding in tools
-vomiting/nausea
-weightloss( lots of energy being used from mutated cells)
-fatigue
How do we diagnose cancer? & how its used
-blood test
-self checks(feel breast, prostate exam)
-urianalysis(anything appearing that’s not supposed to be there)
-Xray/ultrasoundonly sees tumors BENIGN
-biopsy(sample and see under microscope for abnormal cells)
Treatments for Cancer?
-hormone therapy(atria the cancer)
-surgery(take out mass)
-chemo(wipe out cells, take out generating cells the good and bad cells)
-radiation therapy(disrupt dna, cell division to kill off regenerating cells)
Side effects from cancer
