Q

Explain the process of Jacobs’ study in Capacity in STM.

A
  • He used a serial digital span technique to asses the capacity of the participants memory.
  • They were given a series of digits or letter that they were asked to recall.
  • Started off with 1 digit or letter and increased as they recalled them.
  • Once the recollection fell to 50% or less of correct letters or digits, the participants had reached their capacity.

Q

What were the results of Jacobs’ study in Capacity in STM

A

Found that participants recalled more digits than letters. Digit recollection was 9.3 and letter recollection was at 7.3 so therefore STM has a limited capacity.
