Lord capulet overview
Shakespeare presents Lord Capulet as a complex and evolving character whose behaviour reveals the tension between patriarchal authority and parental affection. Initially, Capulet appears protective and considerate, yet as the play progresses he becomes increasingly authoritarian, treating Juliet as a property to enforce his will. Shakespeare ultimately portrays Capulet as a tragic embodiment of rigid social expectations, using his dowfall to criticise the destructive impact of pride, patriarchy and emotional repression
