Q

How do you improve the toughness and strength?

A

air cool from carburizing temp–>reheat to slightly above A3 temp and soak to produce fine austenite–> quench and temper

Q

Is high surface CC good or bad in carburized steels? Why?

A

It’s bad, because it can cause a network of carbides along GBs and will increase retained austenite
