Q

Aspirin- what is the mode of action?

A

Aspirin inhibits the COX-1 enzyme, reducing thromboxane A₂ (TXA₂) production. Thromboxane A₂ promotes platelet aggregation, so its inhibition prevents platelets from clumping together, thereby reducing clot formation (antithrombotic effect)

Q

What’s the mode of action for an ARB- losartan

A

Losartan acts as an antagonist by blocking angiotensin II at the AT₁ receptor. This prevents vasoconstriction and promotes vasodilation, lowering blood pressure.

Additionally, it reduces aldosterone secretion, leading to decreased sodium and water retention.

Q

What is the mode of action of Beta Blockers.

A

Beta Blockers are antagonists

The drugs attaches to the adreno receptors blocking the effect of adrenaline and noradrenaline.

Reducing heart rate and blood pressure.

Q

Name a non cardio selective beta blocker and mode of action.

A

Labetalol.

Alpha and beta blocker.

Reduces and blocks adrenaline and noradrenaline by binding to alpha receptor sites. Blood vessels relax
