1
Q

sympathetic neuro Cardiopulm manifestations

A

increased catecholamines, increased iono/chron, increased BP, increased O2 demand, impaired lymph drainage, typical VSR

2
Q

Parasympathetic neuro cardiopulm manifestations

A

vagal, decreased chron/iono, decreased BP, improved lymph drainage

3
Q

Cobb Method exam?

A

degree of scoliosis

4
Q

Classifications of Cobb method:

A

mild scoliosis: 5-15deg
mod scoliosis: 20-45deg
severe scoliosis: >50deg

5
Q

at what cobb angle is respiratory function compromised?

A

cobb angle >50 = resp. compromise

6
Q

the thoracic duct is functionally under what control?

A

sympathetic control [hypersymp tone = decreases lymphatic tone]

7
Q

where do the pregangionic nerves that synapse at the thoracic sympathetic ganglia come from?

A

the intermediolateral column of T1-T5

8
Q

postganglionic fibers from the sympathetic cardiac nerves converge where?

A

at the cardiac plexus

9
Q

what parasympathetic nerves synapse on the cardiac plexus?

A

preganglionic axons from the dorsal nucleus of the vagal nerve and the nucleus ambiguus

10
Q

what are the branches of the cardiac plexus?

A

there is a DEEP and a SUPERFICIAL plexus. the DEEP plexus splits into RIGHT and LEFT halves. LEFT = ONLY AV NODE. RIGHT = SA NODE + right and left coronary plexus.

11
Q

What is the consequence of sympathetic and parasympathetic hyperactivity the the RIGHT half of the deep cardiac plexus?

A
  • sympathetic hyperactivity = at the SA node = risk of SVT

- vagal hyperactivity = at the SA node = sinus brady

12
Q

What is the consequence of sympathetic and parasympathetic hyperactivity the the LEFT half of the deep cardiac plexus?

A
  • sympathetic hyperactivity = at the AV node = risk of ectopic foci and Vfib
  • vagal hyperactivity = at the AV node = AV blocks
13
Q

What are the 3 goals of omt pneumonia treatment?

A
  1. reduce congestion
  2. reduce sym to pulm parenchyma of lung
  3. reduce mech impediments to thoracic cage resp motion
14
Q

what is the osteopathic treatment goal for arrhythmias?

A

Omt should be directed toward reduction of segmental facilitationin the upper thoracics and modification of vagal tonicty.

15
Q

What treatment is contraindicated in COPD patients?

A

thoracic vacuum (but doming is still coo)
