Cardiovascular 2 Flashcards
(10 cards)
Angina Pectoris, symptoms and tx
- Acute ischemic chest pain (loss of blood supply to part of myocardium)
SYMPTOMS:
Severe sharp chest pain of sudden onset
- also may have nausea, vomiting, and anxiety
TX:
Rest, Nitroglycerin
Atherosclerosis and effects on blood vessles
Plaque build up in blood vessels
PROCESS:
- Inflammation
- Mild fatty deposits
- Scar formation
- Calcification
- Clot (Atheroembolism)
EFFECTS:
- thickening walls
- loss of elasticity and hardening of walls
- increase resistance to blood flow

Plaque build up in blood vessels, BP will be high

What is MI? S&S? What should you do?
Mycardial Infarction: loss of blood supply to portion of myocardium
S&S:
- Angina and related symptoms
- Loss of consciousness
ACTION:
- Stop ex
- Get pt to safety
- 911
- CPR/crash cart
- Pt’s meds
List 3 general types of cardiomyopathy
Any condition where the heart is damaged
- Dilated: muscle wall stretched/thin
- Hypertrophic: muscle wall thickened
- Restrictive: Loss of elasticity
CAUSES:
MI, alcoholism, long term severe hypertension, lupus, celiac disease, end stage renal disease, viral infection
CHF: Symptoms, Prognosis, PT implications
Congestive Heart Failure - Heart can’t pump enough blood to meet demand
SYMPTOMS:
PROGNOSIS:
PT IMPLICATIONS:
CHF: Symptoms, Prognosis, PT implications
Congestive Heart Failure - Heart can’t pump enough blood to meet demand
SYMPTOMS:
- L ventricular failure: pulmonary edema b/c blood not getting pumped out of palm sys.
- R ventricular failure: peripheral edema b/c blood not getting pumped out of peripheral limbs
PROGNOSIS:
Multi organ failure due to hypoxia
PT IMPLICATIONS:
Strengthening and endurance

HTN and its Tx
Hypertension: Persistently high BP (>140/90)
TX:
Medication, Ex, Diet, Lifestyle
