(10 cards)

1
Q

Angina Pectoris, symptoms and tx

A
  • Acute ischemic chest pain (loss of blood supply to part of myocardium)

SYMPTOMS:

Q

Atherosclerosis and effects on blood vessles

A

Plaque build up in blood vessels

PROCESS:

  • Inflammation
  • Mild fatty deposits
  • Scar formation
  • Calcification
  • Clot (Atheroembolism)

EFFECTS:

  • thickening walls
  • loss of elasticity and hardening of walls
  • increase resistance to blood flow

Q

What is MI? S&S? What should you do?

A

Mycardial Infarction: loss of blood supply to portion of myocardium

S&S:

  • Angina and related symptoms
  • Loss of consciousness

ACTION:

  • Stop ex
  • Get pt to safety
  • 911
  • CPR/crash cart
  • Pt’s meds

Q

List 3 general types of cardiomyopathy

A

Any condition where the heart is damaged

  1. Dilated: muscle wall stretched/thin
  2. Hypertrophic: muscle wall thickened
  3. Restrictive: Loss of elasticity

CAUSES:
MI, alcoholism, long term severe hypertension, lupus, celiac disease, end stage renal disease, viral infection

Q

CHF: Symptoms, Prognosis, PT implications

A

Congestive Heart Failure - Heart can’t pump enough blood to meet demand

SYMPTOMS:

  • L ventricular failure: pulmonary edema b/c blood not getting pumped out of palm sys.
  • R ventricular failure: peripheral edema b/c blood not getting pumped out of peripheral limbs

PROGNOSIS:
Multi organ failure due to hypoxia

PT IMPLICATIONS:
Strengthening and endurance
