cardiovascular diseases Flashcards
(32 cards)
primary (essential) hypertension
problem in the blood vessels
secondary hypertension
due to renal or adrenal disorders
malignant hypertension
rapidly increasing BP
in which arteries happens aortic dissection and cerebrovascular hemorrhage
small and medium sized arteries
hyaline atherosclerosis
typical for mild hypertension, arteriolar wall thickening causing narrow lumen
hyperplastic atherosclerosis
typical for severe hypertension, onion skinning
onion skinning
intimal thickening (reversible)
aneurysms
congenital or acquired dilations of the heart or blood vessels that involve the entire wall thickness
dissections
when blood enters the area between seperate layers of the vessel wall. only involve intima
varicose veins
abnormally dilated tortuous veins due to chronically increased pressure in vein and weakened vessel wall support
oesophagal varices
can be induced by portal hypertension, increased blood flow into upstream veins
vasculitis
inflammation in vessel wall
thrombophlebitis/phlebothrombosis
deep venous thrombosis accompanied by inflammation
arteriosclerosis
arterial wall thickening and loss of elasticity in small arteries
plaque formation
intravascular accumulation of lipids and cellular debris, infiltrating cells covered by a fibrous cap
LDL
bad cholesterol, bring cholesterol into tissues
HDL
good cholesterol, bring cholesterol from tissues to liver
apolipoproteins
LDL like particles, produced by liver during disease
stable plaques
narrowing vessels leading to ischemia
unstable plaques
risk of rupture, thrombosis, large lipid cores
stenosis
narrowing lumen
congestive heart failure
decreases outflow
primary cardiac disease
confined to the myocardium, mostly genetic
secondary cardiac disease
caused by other disease, atherosclerosis, renal disease
