Cardiovascular Drugs Flashcards
(10 cards)
Is used to treat heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias). It helps the heart work better and it helps control your heart rate
Digoxin
Work on the heart muscle by influencing contractility or the strength of the contractions
Inotropes
changes the heart rate and rhythm by affecting the electrical conduction system of the heart and the nerves that influence it, such as by changing the rhythm produced by the sinoatrial node
Chronotropes
Affects conduction speed of the heart
Dromotropic drugs
It helps relax your veins and arteries to lower your blood pressure and make it easier for your heart to pump blood
Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs)
one of the first drug treatments for high blood pressure and works by blocking sodium and chloride (Na/Cl) channels in the distal convoluted tubule of the nephron and inhibit the reabsorption of sodium and water
Thiazides
this helps relieve low blood pressure and other symptoms. These drugs may be used to raise blood pressure when someone is in shock, has excessive bleeding, or has a severe allergic reaction
Vasoconstrictors
Used to treat arrhythmias. They suppress ectopic areas in the heart.
Antiarrhythmics
Used to reduce the ability of the blood to clot.
Anticoagulants
Monitor all pertinent drug levels on which 3 drugs?
Digoxin, Lithium and, Aminophylline
