Endocrine Drugs Flashcards
(10 cards)
These are gluccorticord hormones in drug form, which have potent anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammatory responses and increased inflammation produced, autoimmune illnesses are treated with pills or injectable.
Corticosteriod Drugs
drugs for hyperthyroidism
propylthiouracil
first kind of diabetes medication that can be taken orally. Despite being structurally related to anti-infective sulfonamide medications, they have no anti-infective effects. Encourage the pancreatic beta cells to produce more insulin.
Sulfonylurea Oral Antidiabetic Drugs
It lowers your blood sugar levels by improving the way your body handles insulin
Metformin
stimulate the beta cells of the pancreas to produce more insulin; these drugs also increase the number of insulin receptors so that the cells are not resistant to the effects of any insulin that is present.
oral antidiabetic drug
Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when dietary management and exercise alone does not result in adequate glycaemic control.
glucophage
It helps blood sugar enter the body’s cells so it can be used for energy
Insulin
aka insulin dependent diabetes (IDDM) or juvenille-onset diabetes. the pancreas does not produce any insulin. treated with SC injected insulin
Type 1 diabetes mellitus
aka non-insulin dependant diabetes (NIDDM) or adult- onset diabetes. the pancreas produces to little insulin. The number of or sensitivity of insulin receptors on body cells is decreased. Treated with antidiabetic drugs (insulin may also be needed) Controlled diet and exercise is a must
Type 2 diabetes mellitus
is an insulin type and by helping blood sugar (glucose) get into cells so your body can use it for energy
