Cardiovascular System Flashcards
(10 cards)
Name the pathway of deoxygenated blood from the body to the lungs…
Vena cavae pumps blood into the right atrium. The blood goes from the right atrium to the right ventricle. The blood is then pumped out of the heart and to the lungs through the pulmonary artery.
Name the pathway of oxygenated blood from the lungs to the body…
The pumonary vien pumps blood into the the left ventricle. This blood passes into the left atrium and from the left atrium it leaves the heart to go to the body via the aorta.
Name 3 key features of Veins…
1,Carry prodominately oxygenated blood.
2,Have thin walls.
3,Have valves to stop backflow.
4,Carries blood at a low pressure.
Name 3 Key features of Arteries…
1,Carry prodominately deoxygenated blood.
2,Have thick walls.
3,No valves.
4,Carries blood at a high pressure.
What happens at the capilllaries?
Gaseous exchange occurs here as they are only one cell thick and allow diffusion.
Define blood pressure…
The force of your blood as it flows around your body
Name 3 short term effects of exercise on the respiratory system…
1,Increased heart rate.
2,Increased blood pressure.
3,Increased stroke volume.
Name 3 long term effects of exercise on the respiratory system…
1,Decreased blood pressure. 2,Decreased resting heart rate. 3,Increased maximal stroke volume. 4,Faster recovery rate. 5,Healthy veins and arteries. 6,Bigger heart size.
What is vasoconstriction?
What is vasodilation?
VC-Diameter of the arteries reducing
VD-Diameter of arteries increasing
What is the name given to when the body redistrubutes blood to where its needed…
Blood Shunting
