Q

What did the still face experiment demonstrate?

Q

What is interactional synchrony?

A

Two people are said to be synchronised when they carry out the same action simultaneously. Interactional synchrony can also be defined as ‘the temporal co-ordination of micro-level social behaviour’
- Takes place when a care giver and baby interact in such a way that their actions and emotions mirror the other.

Q

What did Meltzoff and Moore suggest?

A

They observed the beginning of interactional synchrony in babies as young as 2 weeks old . An adult displayed one of the three facial expressions or one of the three distinctive gestures. The baby’s response was filmed and labelled by independent observers. Babies expressions and gestures were more likely to mirror those of the adults.

Q

Weakness

A

Difficult to observe babies
-lack of communication uncertain about the babies perspective so therofre subjective
-Socially sensitive topic
-implies mother is needed for attachment
-implies mother needs to stay at home
