Q

What is the alert phase

A

Feldman- baby signals they want an interaction
2/3 of the time the baby is picked up
By 3 moths interaction increases and mother and baby pay attention to facial features

Q

What is the active phase

A

Babies have more of an active role. Take turns in initiating the reaction
Brazelton et al - like a couples dance

Q

Describe mezeltoff and moores interactional synchrony study

A
  • showed babies as young as 2 weeks mirrored actions of mother
-babies shown one of three features. Babies were more likely to repeat expression than change would say

Q

Describe isabellas study for interactional synchrony

Q

What is a strength of caregiver infant interactions

A

Filmed in the lab
Can be analysed later and by many people so good inter rater reliability
Distractions minimised
Babies don’t know they’re filmed like in over observations so more validity and reliability

Q

What are the limitations to caregiver infant interactions

A

Difficult to interpret babies behaviour

Observing behaviour doesn’t tell us the developmental importance - unsure if reciprocity and interactional synchrony are essential for development
