  1. Plan Approach — HEAVY WAVES & HEAVY WINDS, Approach into wind
    HEAVY WAVES & LIGHT WINDS, Land parallel to swells
  2. Configure — FLAPS 40º, 300 ft/min DESCENT at 70mph
  3. Doors — UNLATCH
  4. Descent — AVOID FLAIR, CONTINUE DESCENT TO TOUCHDOWN
  5. Evacuate — THROUGH CABIN DOORS OR WINDOWS

Prepare for ditching by securing or jettisoning heavy objects located in the baggage area, and collect folded coats or cushions for protection of occupant’s face at touchdown.

Transmit Mayday message on 121.5 giving intentions and activate ELT.

  1. Ignition Switch — CONTINUE CRANKING
    If Successful — RUN ENGINE AT 1700 RPM FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE SHUTTING DOWN
  2. If Unsuccessful — CONTINUE CRANKING FOR 3-4 MIN
  3. Throttle — FULL OPEN
  4. Mixture — IDLE CUT-OFF
  5. Fire extinguishers — PREPARE
  6. Ignition Switch — OFF
  7. Master — OFF
  8. Fuel Selector — OFF

  3. Vents/Cabin Air/Heat — CLOSED
  4. Fire Extinguisher — ACTIVATE
  5. Windows — OPEN
    If fire appears out and electrical power is necessary for continuance of flight
  6. Master — ON
  7. Circuit Breakers — CHECK for faulty circuit, DON’T RESET
  8. Radios/Electrical Switches — ON (one at a time)
  9. Vents/Cabin Air/Heat — OPEN
