Cell Cycle Flashcards
(5 cards)
What is the first stage of cell division?
Interphase
Cell grows & organelles are synthesised, DNA replicates, and chromosomes are not visible.
What happens during Prophase?
Nuclear membrane disintegrates, chromosomes condense, and chromosomes become visible.
Centrioles separate to opposite poles & lay down spindle fibres.
What occurs during Metaphase?
Chromosomes arrange themselves at the equator.
The nuclear membrane has broken down.
What happens in Anaphase?
Spindle fibres shorten, centromere splits, and individual chromatids migrate to opposite poles.
What occurs during Telophase?
Nuclear membranes reform, chromatids have reached opposite poles, and chromosomes start to unravel & are no longer visible.
