Cell Cycle Flashcards
(16 cards)
What are the stage in the Cell cycle?
Interphase
- G1
-S
-G2
(M) phase
- Mitosis
-Cytokinesis
What happens in G1 phase?
- organelles replicate
-transcription/ translation - cell size increases
What happens in S phase?
DNA synthesis
chromosomes replicate
What happens in G2 phase?
energy stores replicate
transcription/ translation
chromosomes repair
size of cell increases
What occurs in Interphase
DNA replication
What occurs in Mitosis
chromosomes seperate into two nuclei
What occurs in Cytokinesis?
The cell divides into two.
What is G0?
where the cell exits the cell cycle.
Why does the cell enter G0?
- fully differentiated cells- adult neurones
- senescent cells- damaged cells
cells in G0 temporarily- B memory cells.
What are checkpoints/?
when the cell checks whether the cell cycle should continue.
What happens if a cell fails its checkpoint?
It will enter G0.
What are the three checkpoints?
G1 checkpoint, G2 checkpoint, Metaphase checkpoint
What does the G1 checkpoint check?
that the cell ha grown to the correct size
and for DNA damage.
What does the G2 checkpoint check?
checks for DNA damage
cell grown to correct size
What does the metaphase checkpoint check?
it checks that the chromosomes are assembled correctly on the mitotic spindle.
