cell differentiation and specialisation Flashcards
and specialisation (8 cards)
what is differentiation?
the process by which a cell changes to become specialised
how do the cells become specialised?
they develop DIFFERENT SUB-CELLULAR STRUCTURES
and turn into different types of cells , which carry out specific structures
what are undifferentiated cells called?
STEM CELLS
Sperm cells specialty
For reproduction, has long tail to swim to the egg and a lot of mitochondria for energy
Nerve cell speciality
Rapid signalling, they are long and have branched connection to connect through the body
muscle cell speciality
Contraction, loss go mitochondria to generate energy needed for contraction
root hair cell speciality
absorbs water and minerals, big surface area for absorbing water and minerals
Phloem and Xylem cells speciality
transporting substances, form tubes which trance substances like food and water around plants, they are long ( very few sub cellular structures ) so stuff can flow through them
