What are stem cells?
undifferentiated cells that can divide to make more undifferentiated cells
where are stem cells found?
in the human early embryo
what are embryonic stem cells?
stem cells have the possibility to change into any cells
where are the stem cells found in an adult?
stem cells are found in the bone marrow
how do you make medicine from stem cells
stem cells from the embryo and bone marrow can be grown in a lab to produce clones and made to differentiate into specialised cells to use in medicine
what can adult stem cells do?
can cure diseases - can replace faulty blood cells
what can embryonic cells do?
replace faulty blood cells , could make insulin-producing cells for people with diabetes etc
Risks about stem cells in medicine?
can be contaminated with a virus that could pass onto the patient
