Cell Division mitosis Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is mitosis
Mitosis is when a cell reproduces itself by splitting to form two identical offspring
MITOSIS- why does mitosis make new cells
For growth and repair
Mitosis - In a cell that is not dividing what does the DNA do?
Spreads out in long strings
Mitosis - if the cell get a signal to divide it duplicates it’s DNA. What does copied DNA form?
X-shaped chromosomes each arm is an exact duplicate of the other
Mitosis - what do the Christine’s do before they split? (Step 3)
Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell, fibres then pull them apart
Mitosis - after the fibres pulled the chromosomes apart what happens?
The two arms of the Chromosome go to opposite ends of the cell
Mitosis - what forms around the chromosomes after the chromosomes were just pulled apart
Membranes are formed around two neuclei (still joined together)
Mitosis - the last stage is when the cytoplasm (membrane) around the neuclei divides, then what happens
You now hoe two new cells containing identically DNA
Body cells usually have how many copies of chromosomes?
Two copies of each chromosome
Where do body cells get their copies of chromosomes from?
One from the organisms mother and one from the father. The cell has two chromosome 1’s… One from mum an one from dad
