Cell division study Flashcards
Eukaryotic division can be split into the two stages-
Mitosis/Nucleus Splits
Cytokinesis/Cytoplasm Splits
When a cell is done growing, it divides itself into
two daughter cells.
Is this asexual or sexual reproduction -Mitosis?
Asexual
Chromosomes are made of what?
DNA.
Chromosomes aren’t visible in most cells except for during what?
Cell division.
Each chromosome consists of two what?
Chromatids
Where do pairs of chromatids attack to each other?
Centromere
What stage of the cell cycle to cells spend 90% of their time?
Interphase
What is the cell cycle?
A series of events that cells go through to grow and divide.
What happens during the M phase of the cell cycle?
Mitosis and Cytokinesis
What happens during the S phase of the cell cycle?
Chromosomes replicate/synthesize (Duplicates DNA)
What happens during the G(1) phase of the cell cycle?
Cells do most of their growing, synthesize new proteins and organelles
What happens during the G(2) phase of the cell cycle?
Many organelles and molecules required for cell division are produced. (Shortest part of interphase, preparation for mitosis)
What is the order of the cell cycle, all 5?
G(1), S, G(2), Mitosis, Cytokinesis
How many stages of mitosis are there?
4
