Cell Functions Flashcards
(12 cards)
Plasma membrane
Controls what gets in and out
Nucleus
Has DNA and is the control center
Cytoplasm
The fluid part holding organelles chemicals and proteins
Ribosomes
Where proteins are made and synthesized
Endoplasmic reticulum
Two kinds: Rough ER and smooth ER
Transport within the cell. Production of lipids and carbs
When ribosomes are attached and therefore plays a role in protein synthesis
Golgi body
Package various chemicals to be secreted
Secretory vesicles
Membrane-bound sack with a chemical that travels to the membrane to be released
Lysosome
Main function is to break down lipids proteins and some carbs. Contain enzymes
Centrioles
Play a big role in cell reproduction
Cilia
Hairs on the outside of cells (tiny hairlike structures) that move mucus and trap foreign particles
Microfilaments
Aid in movement in cells
Mitochondria
Major site of ATP energy synthesis
