Cell Parts and Organelles Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is an organelle?
An organelle is a part of a cell located between the cell wall and the nucleus, surrounded by membrane
What is the function of the cell membrane?
The cell membrane controls what enters and exits the cell
What is the function of Mitochondria?
Mitochondria is the site of respiration - they release energy. This is where the oxygen in respiration is used.
What is the function of Ribosomes?
Ribosomes are the site of protein synthesis (it is where proteins are made)
What is the function of the cell wall?
The cell wall gives the cell structure and supports it
What occurs in cytoplasm?
Cytoplasm is where the chemical reactions occur
What is the function of Chloroplasts and what do they contain?
Chloroplasts absorb light for photo synthesis and contain chlorophyll
Which parts of the cell are not organelles?
The nucleus,
The cell wall,
The cell membrane
What is a cell?
It is the smallest unit of life that can replicate independently
They help us function properly and when a vast amount of them are combined they form an organism
Are these found in an animal cell, a plant cell, or both?:
Nucleus Vacuole Mitochondria Cell wall Cytoplasm Cell Membrane Chloroplast Ribosomes
Nucleus: both Vacuole: plant Mitochondria: both Cell wall: plant Cell membrane: both Chloroplasts: plant Ribosomes: animal
Where does the chemical reactions occur?
The chemical reactions occur in cytoplasm
