Cell Structure And Membrane Transport Flashcards
(18 cards)
What is the plasma membrane made of
Phospholipid bilayer and proteins
What does selectively permeable mean
Only certain substance can pass through
Describe diffusion
Movement of ions or molecules between different regions of the cell HIGH TO LOW CONCENTRATION (diffusion is used when there is NO water involved)
What is osmosis
Movement of water concentration from a higher to a lower concentration through a selectively permeable membrane
Describe what happens to a cell when it has become Plasmolysed
Plant cells that have lost water by osmosis, parts of cell membrane have pulled away and the vacuole has shrunk
What happens to a plant cell when it is Turgid
It bursts
What is active transport
Movement of ions from a Lower concentration gradient to a higher concentration gradient (its active requires energy)
What is passive transport
When there is not energy required (higher to lower)
What is the cell membrane made of
Phospholipids and protein
What feature of the cell membrane allow certain molecules through it
Selectively permeable
Name all the feature of an animal cell
Cytoplasm,nucleas,ribosome,plasma membrane,mitochondria
Name all the features of an animal cell
Vacuole,nucleas,cell wall,ribosome,mitochondria,plasma membrane,chloroplast,cytoplasm
Name the features of a bacterial cell
Cytoplasm,DNA,ribosome,plasmid,plasma menbrane, cell wall
Name the features of fungal cell
Plasma membrane,cell wall,vacuole,ribosome,cytoplasm,nucleas,mitochondria
Define chloroplast
Contains chlorophyll which absorbs sunlight during photosynthesis
How to you work out cell size
Length of cell divided by number of cells
