Cells Flashcards
(17 cards)
What is the plasma membrane?
A bi-lipid layer, which surrounds the cytoplasm.
Controls movement in and out of cells
What is the nucleus?
It contains DNA and controls all metabolic reactions
What is the nuclear membrane?
It encloses the nucleus and controls what enters and leaves the nucleus
What are lysosomes?
They break down complex material
What are vacuoles?
They are filled with fluid and functions in growth, storage and waste disposal
What does the mitochondria do?
Converts glucose into energy (ATP)
What are cilia and flagella?
They are extensions from the cell membrane and allow organisms to move
What is the cytoskeleton?
It provides structure within the cell
What are chloroplasts?
They contain chlorophyll and are the site of photosynthesis
What is the cytoplasm?
It is the watery contents of a cell where organelles are suspended.
It is between the nuclear and cell membrane
What is the Golgi complex
It modifies, stores, packages and transports protein
What is the rough endoplasmic reticulum?
It manufactures proteins
What is the smooth endoplasmic reticulum?
It manufactures lipids and carbs
What is the cell wall?
Semi rigid structure outside cell membrane of only plant cells.
It supports the cell
What is a starch granule?
It is a storage of energy
What is a ribosome?
Manufactures proteins
What is an organelle?
A structural and functional part of a cell
