What does ‘MRS GREN’ stand for?
Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excrete, Nutrition
What is Classification?
Separating animals with different characteristics into groups
What is a Nucleus?
The heart of the cell
What is a Cell Wall?
It connects to other cells and protects the Nucleus
What is a Cell (Surface) Membrane?
Controls what enters and leaves the cell
What is Cytoplasm?
A jelly like substance where many chemical reactions take place
What are Ribosomes?
They make protein
What is Mitochondria?
Releases the energy from food by use by the cell (this is called Respiration)
What is a Permanent Vacuole?
Full of cell sap and helps support the cell
What is a Chloroplast?
Absorbs light, which enables the plant to make food (photosynthesis)
What do Red Blood Cells do? What is their adaptation?
Carry Oxygen, No Nucleus, Large Surface Area
What do Nerve Cells do? What is their adaptation?
Transmit and store information. Have many connecting side branches.
What do White Blood Cells do? What is their adaptation?
Engulf and destroy bacteria. Cytoplasm can flow.
What do Ciliated Windpipe Cells do?
What is their adaptation?
Keep the trachea clear of dust etc. Having hairs that move around from side to side.
What do Sperm Cells do?
What is their adaptation?
Fertilise Egg Cells. Has a powerful tail.
