Cellular Division Flashcards
(19 cards)
Cell Division
Process by which a cell divides into 2 new daughter cells
Nate Carroll
Mitosis
Division of the cell nucleus, First stage in cell division
Cytokinesis
Division of the cytoplasm, second stage in cell division
Interphase
In-between cell division, a period of growth
Cell cycle
Series of events that cells go through as they grow and divide
Way to remember is ( ĪPMÀT)
Prophase
First & longest phase of mitosis.chromosomes become visible & double, centrioles move and make the spindle, nuclear envelope disappears
Metaphase
Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
Anaphase
Sister chromatids move away from each other
Telophase
Chromosomes lose shape, cell membrane pinches in, nuclear envelope re-forms
Chromosomes
Visible genetic material. Paired with chromatids
Sister chromatids
2 identical connected strands of a chromosome
Chromatin
Thin, unorganized genetic material
Cancer
Uncontrolled cell growth. Does not respond to normal grow regulation signals
Asexual reproduction
Process by which a single parent produces by itself
Offspring are genetically the exact same as parent cell
DNA Replication
Process by which DNA copies itself
Budding
Process of asexual reproduction where the parent cell divides itself disproportionally
Binary giddily
Process of asexual reproduction where the parent cell divides itself equally
Regeneration
Process of cell division where a n organism regrows an entire body part
