Inheritance of traits offspring get from their parents that they acquire during their lifetime Lamarck’s theory
This was proven wrong- evolution by natural selection is correct - change over time
Fossil
Remains found from earlier times
Ex. Dinosaur bones and shells found in rock
Homologous structures
Body parts that are similar in origin and structure
Ex. Human hand and bat wing
Vestigial structures
Body part no longer in use but present in a reduced form
Ex. Human appendix and tail bone
Natural selection
Individuals with the best adapted to a specific environment survive and pass on their traits to their offspring
Variation
Differences in an inherited trait of individuals in a population
Ex. Galagos finches
Population
Group of organisms of the same species that live together in an area
Ex. Monkeys and apes
