Cellular Respiration Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is Cellular Respiration Generally?
Glucose is turned into CO2 and H2O. Respiration harvests a lot of the energy. Occurs over multiple steps
What is the order or things?
Glycolysis, Acetyl-CoA synthesis, Citric Acid cycle
Glycolysis
Net two ATP per molecule of Glucose. Also two molecules of Pyruvate. Occurs in cytosol.
Acetyl-CoA Synthesis
Pyruvate is turned into Acetyl-CoA. Plus you get two NADH
Citric Acid Cycle
complex cyclical reactions. One glucose gets you 2 ATP, 6 NADH, 2 FADH2.
Electron Transport Chain
Harvesting of free energy available from NADH and FADH2… roughly 28 ATP are gained from each glucose molecule.
ATP Synthetase
One part rotates as protons flow through it, the other part uses this rotational energy to catalyze the synthesis of ATP.
Where does this all take Place?
Glycolysis happens in the cytosol. Acetyl-CoA and Citric acid cycle happen in the matrix too.
