NUTRITIVE VALUE

A

Protein: LBV, for growth.
Fat: Small amounts, energy and insulation.
Carbohydrates: Main nutrient. Starch and fibre (gluten), unprocessed.
Vitamin B: Unprocessed, healthy nerves, release of energy.
Iron, Calcium and Phosphorus: Healthy blood, bones and teeth.
Water: Low.

WHAT ARE CEREAL?

A

The seeds or grains of edible grass/plants, e.g: Wheat, barley and rice.

A

Outer lair of grain. Contains fibre, iron and vitamin B.

Large inner part. Contains starch and gluten (protein).

A

Small inner part. Most nutritious, contains: protein, fat, and vitamin B.

A

A

Mainly composed of endosperm, e.g: white flour.
