Psychological Disorder
Having a psychological dysfunction, distress, or impairment in ones function and having a symptom response that isn’t typically expected in ones culture or society
Dysfunction
a breakdown in thinking, thoughts, emotions, and behavior

Differential diagnosis
Reactive depression
Seen in children. A child cannot discern what they are experiencing so they act out.
i.e: a depress child looks like they have ADHD

refers to the number of people in a general population that have a disorder in a number of years
Incidence
Number of new cases of a disorder in a number of years
GAF score
The Global assessment of function.
i.e: how well some is functioning
CVT
cognitive behavioral therapy
psychosomatic disorder
psychological systems that appear or given physical symptoms
ID
the source of sexual thoughts and behavior
Ego
responsible for finding realistic and practical ways to satisfy id drives.
(Develops a few months after birth)
Superego
one’s conscious mind. represents moral principals, also develops last.
Projection
falsely attribute your own unacceptable thoughts and feelings on to someone else
Repression
when on blocks their own feelings and thoughts from their own conscious awareness
Sublimation
When one directs potential maladaptive feelings or impulses into socially acceptable behaviors
Displacement
redirecting anger on a less threatening object or person
Denial
refusal to accept a facet of reality that others see
Rationalization
Is concealing true motivation for actual truth and feelings. Self serving behavior
Reaction Formation
Takes truths, feelings and thoughts and substitute them for things that are more socially acceptable
