What is leadership?
Leadership may be defined as the art of influencing, directing, guiding, and controlling others to obtain their willing obedience, confidence, respect, and loyal cooperation in accomplishing an objective.
What binds a group together in leadership?
The human factor binds a group together and motivates it toward goals.
Is leadership just a grant of authority?
No, leadership involves more than just a grant of authority.
What is the distinction between yielding and following?
When men obey because of fear, they are yielding, which leads to grudging obedience. When men follow willingly, they do so because they want to do what a leader wishes.
How does a leader motivate a group?
A leader stimulates, motivates, and inspires the group to follow willingly, even eagerly.
What is the role of authority in leadership?
An authority pushes and drives men who yield and obey out of fear of consequences.
Are there different levels of leadership proficiency?
Yes, there are as many levels of leadership proficiency as there are leaders.
What influences organizational effectiveness?
There is a close positive correlation between organizational effectiveness and the abilities of supervisors to skillfully apply proven principles of leadership.
